BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE TRIP

Join Troops 697, 118, and 172 on our fourth visit to the Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area. A trip of a lifetime and a Scout favorite - we will be canoeing and camping for up to 7 days in a fisherman's paradise. See moose, bald eagles, loons; enjoy historical Indian pictographs and trading sites, and fish for walleye, smallmouth bass, and Northern pike in crystal-clear lakes and rivers.

An average day in the Boundary Waters may include canoe travel between 5-10 miles, including portages, setting up camp, group meals, fishing, hiking, exploring. We always plan at least one or two "layover days" where we stay in one camp site for two nights to allow for extra exploring (and fishing) days. Group sizes are limited to 9 persons per group in the Boundary Waters. Depending on the number of trip participants, we may divide into groups of 9 or less.

TRIP ITINERARY

ESTIMATED COSTS AND PAYMENT DUE DATES:

The total cost for this trip is estimated to be approximately $950 based on a 7-day trip (on the water) plus 2 travel days and a free day in Ely. Once we select our routes and begin making reservations for airlines, ground transportation, and the canoe package, we will be able to give you an exact price. The cost includes all transportation, food, lodging, and canoe and equipment rentals. The only items not included are fishing gear and bait, fishing licenses, and extra money for snacks and souvenirs.

Deposits and payments are due as follows:

TRANSPORTATION
We will be flying to Minneapolis from Phoenix and then traveling to Ely on a charter bus. All transportations costs are included in the trip cost.

MEDICAL FORMS
This trip requires a class 3 medical form to be on file with the trip leaders. You must use the new BSA annual medical form.

RULES FOR BWCA PARTICIPATION
Because this trip is classified as a high-adventure outing, it is restricted to Scouts who will be 14 or older by June 1, 2010. Scouts must be able to canoe long distances and carry a 52-pound canoe or a pack up to 60 pounds over short distances (less than a mile). Please speak with one of the trip leaders for any exceptions to this policy.

This trip will include three pre-trip outings for the crews, scheduled between January and May of 2010. These are mandatory outings in order to work on canoeing, portaging, and crew skills.
